Content Management / Online Publishing
A powerful, yet highly intuitive content management application is built into the ReadyPortal platform. This integrated system facilitates a multi-step workflow for submitting, editing, approving, storing and deploying content on the portal through the use of a searchable and easily accessible central document repository.
Administrator Settings
The content management application supports distributed control of content through the designation of various system roles, including authors, editors and administrators. Administrators have the ability to establish content categories to index and organize content, thus making it easy to retrieve. Within these categories, administrators designate editors and authors who enter, edit and approve the content. Administrators also have the ability to define default layout templates to ensure that content deployed in the system has a consistent look and feel, regardless of its input source or format.
Content Submission
Content can be aggregated into the system from a wide variety of sources in a broad range of formats, including text, HTML, RTF, PDF and various multimedia formats. Once entered into the system, content is either structured as an XML document or as an unstructured file, depending on its type. While submitting content into the system, authors may enter extensive metadata about the content and documents. This metadata is used to facilitate rapid and intelligent retrieval of the content for deployment throughout the portal. Due to the system's intuitive and accessible browser-based interface, both non-technical and technical users can contribute their content directly into the systems' editorial queue.
Content Editing, Approval and Storage
Once content has been entered in to the system, administrators or editors may perform editorial functions. Editors have the ability to modify any portion of the content or its associated metadata and approve content for release to the web site. The system stores content metadata according to the XML based NITF metadata specification, which facilitates high speed searching and document syndication.
Content Retrieval and Publishing
Once stored and approved, content can be deployed in a variety of formats and located anywhere on the web site via PortalModules. Content can be retrieved for display by category, by metadata search of the content repository, or by manual selection of individual articles. Content may also be retrieved and deployed automatically based on a pre-defined release and removal schedule, which may be defined on a per document basis. Administrator defined style format templates automatically provide a unified look to the disparate content regardless of their input source.
Scope of Content Management System Capabilities
The ReadyPortal platform's content management system is designed to be a powerful "80/20" solution for customers who are seeking a pragmatic approach. ReadyPortal's content management capabilities are robust and can support the online publishing needs of large organizations with large content databases, complex workflows and multiple delivery formats (web, wireless, and electronic print). However, they can also be applied in a way that is very simple to learn and use.
