Google Can Be Like Your Parents - They Will Ground You! How to Get Indexed After Being Google Banned

This article branches off one of my original articles top tips to get your site banned in the search engines.

So the end of the world has occured! You woke up and ran to your computer to check your Google Analytics account. You then noticed that your traffic has dropped almost completely. Naturally you start to freak out a little bit because you are losing out on a lot of money making traffic. There is no need to freak out, I will walk you through a couple different situations in which your site could have been banned and couple additional ways to solve these issues. 99% of the time Google has a good reason for banning your website.

After your done crying, screaming or praying for this ban not to be true it's time to get your hand dirty. Go to google.com and type in this command site:http://www.yoururl.com replacing "yoururl" with your website address. What shows up? If nothing shows up this is pretty good evidence that your site had been banned from Google. If some of your pages show up but not all of them it's possible that just certain pages of your website have been banned. If this is the case you should log into your Google webmaster tools account and they will probably have a warning or two that you need to fix.

Next type in the command link:http://www.yoururl.com and once again make sure that "yoururl" is replaced with the web address of your website. If you get another blank page it can be assumed by now that your site has been banned from the search engine.

My Site Is Banned How Do I Fix It?

We have used the two commands within Google and received the results we have been dreading. Yes- it sucks, but it's not the end of the world. Let's go over some of the easy fixed that commonly cause sites to get banned.

Robots.txt file - This little file can kill your website quicker than anything if not created properly. This is how your robots file should look so it's not blocking any Google spiders.

User-agent: *

Disallow: /folder1/specificpage.html

People get so anxious when creating on of these files that mistakes can very easily be made. People "disallow:" their entire site by accidently adding the asterisk (*) to the disallow: field which tells all search bots to not index any of your pages.

A common SEO technique for avoiding duplicate content is to make sure that your www.yoursite.com, http://yoursite.com and your index.html all redirect to one variation of the site. Let me tell you by adding any of these paths in your Disallow: section it will block all versions of your website from the search engines. You need to conduct 301 redirects on these links.

Outdated and Manipulative SEO Techniques - Were you planning on out smarting Google and use come "secret" techniques to inflate your search rankings? YOU GOT CAUGHT! Ouch! Some of the following techniques are common "on page" tactics that can get your site banned from the search engines.

Keyword stuffing/invisible text - Google can tell what is showing to just them and what you are showing to all your users. If you're reteating your keywords a million times in black text on your black background this is why your site is banned. Remove the keyword stuffing or invisible text and Google might grand mercy on your website.

Linking Out To Bad Neighborhoods - Only you have control over what websites your site links out too. If Google sees that you are linking to gambling, pornography, or Google AdSense manipulating web pages your site will get banned.

Cloacking - Google is smart, don't forget it! If you are building a site and setting certain parameters so when the Google spiders visit your site they see a different site than other visitors, you will get banned.

Selling Links - It doesn't matter if your actually selling links or just advertising it on your website. It is against Googles T.O.S to sell links without including what is known as a "do not follow" attribute to the link. Remove words from your site that say "buy links", "link buyers", & "sponsored links" these can at times look bad to the search engines.

Google Is Kinda Like Your Parents - They Want To Forgive You

Google is like a parent as in they need to discipline in order to keep the house under control. Most parents can get upset easily but with time and change of action will easily forgive. "Mommy" & "Daddy" Google will forgive you and will consider re-including your website if you promise to behave and follow the rules.

Once you have figured out your robots.txt or removed any of your questionable "SEO tactics" Google will allow you back into their index. Kids need to earn the trust they lost with their parents and this is true with websites and their Google parents. Don't expext to remove the harmful components from your site and be re-indexed the same day. There is however a couple things you can do to "appologize" and speed up the process.

1. Request reconsideration directly through Google.

2. Sign up for Google Webmaster Tools and submit an XML Sitemap to Google

3. Build quality links to your website - An authority site linking to your website is a vote of confidence in Google's eyes.

Be Careful Next Time - Google Is Always Watching

Google will always be watching your website and the next time you try to cheat your way to the top it will ban you again. Granted not everyone who gets banned is intentionally malicious, however it's always nice to know what you shouldn't be doing. Inexperienced users creating robots.txt files tend to be one of the biggest influences in a website disappearing from Google overnight. Is your website banned from Google?
